NISN’s Teacher Mentorship Program aims to support and retain educators by mentoring early-service teachers and providing the tools needed to transform Indigenous educational systems and create learning environments that include culturally- and locally-aligned supports for Indigenous students.

In its pilot year for 2025-2026, the mentoring program aims to empower and uplift passionate educators to advocate for and exercise their agency to recognize each child’s gifts. It emphasizes the importance of creating an educational future that promotes healing and fundamentally transforms educational models for future generations of Indigenous youth by addressing each community's unique needs, cultures, languages, strengths, and visions.

The Teacher Mentorship Program runs from September through July of each school year; program participants will attend monthly professional development seminars, including in-person quarterly convenings and one-to-one mentorship, with a goal of completing the program with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to create a culturally responsive learning environment.

Who is eligible?

Teachers in their 1st - 3rd year of teaching at NISN Network schools who are not enrolled in other teaching/degree programs.

The application for school year 2026-2027 will open in July 2026.
